Two very meaningful moments last week…We applied for and received our second year visas (Carte de Séjour) on May 17, 2019, and we filed our first French tax returns on May 16, 2019. Wow. All in one week!

March 31 – During Geri’s visit, we biked from home, along The Canal du Midi, past vineyards, to our nearby town of Trebes for lunch along the canal. Just gorgeous. I’ve added some history of The Canal du Midi’s construction at the very bottom of this post.
There are so many fun, scenic things to do in and around Carcassonne that it’s a delight to plan visits for family and friends. My dear friend Geri, from Colorado, visited us in early April this year for five days, and my next posts are about some of the fun things we did together.
Here are some improvements that we’ve made in our salon and staircase, compared to what it looked like when we first viewed our house two years ago. We still have work to do, but it’s better!
Guest bathroom on our third floor before: Brown shag carpet on the floors and walls. (Yes. Brown shag carpet that was installed in the 1970s — back then, a sign of wealth. Today, ick.) Bathroom after: No more shag carpet, and many more improvements. The previous owners did install some beautiful travertine marble back in the 1970s — so our challenge/opportunity was to find and install tile that worked with the “old” lovely travertine. Here are some before and after photos.
